Leopoldo (Polo) Garza

Effective June 2014, Polo Garza becomes acting Chairman of J. Walter Thompson Mexico (JWT), one of the longest established advertising agencies in the country that serves many of the great leading brands in Mexico. Polo will lead a young talented team at JWT towards innovation and digital communication.
In January, 2013, Garza was directly appointed by Sir Martin Sorrell as Chairman for Mexico of the WPP Group, which groups 14 of the most important advertising, communications and marketing services companies in the country, such as JWT, Ogilvy & Mather, Mindshare, Y&R and Millward Brown, among others.
He is member of the Board of Directors of Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide.
Polo has a Business Administration degree from the re-known Tecnologico de Monterrey. His advertising and communications career started at Y&R in 1972. Later in 1981, he joined Leo Burnett. In his 14 years tenure at Leo he reached several top positions, including Director of Media and Strategic Planning and finally as EVP, while creating the first integrated communications unit. At this time Leo Burnett became one of the top three agencies in town.
In 1995 Polo started-up the operation of Saatchi & Saatchi in Mexico. Four years later, in 1999, he joins Ogilvy & Mather as its first Mexican President and CEO, becoming its Chairman in January, 2011.
Under Polo´s tenure the Ogilvy Group became the number 1 agency in Mexico and has been named Agency of the Year during 5 years. It is also the most awarded agency both in terms of creativity (15 Lions at Cannes Festival) and of effectiveness (27 EFFIE awards obtained).
Garza was responsible of the growth of the Group by consolidating its offer of 360° disciplines, from strategic planning to public relations and from business consulting to digital communications in social media.
Polo has served as President of the Mexican Association of Advertising Agencies (AMAP) of which now is a member of its Consulting Board. Polo received in 2010 the prestigious Medal to the Advertising Merit awarded by the AMAP and in 2011 he was presented with the Al Ries Marketing Award by the Anahuac University. He also has been recognized as Ad Man of the Year in 3 different occasions.
He is also a board member of various charitable and professional organizations such as Casa de la Amistad for Children with Cancer, the Special Olympics and The Global Entrepreneur Students Award.
Polo´s hobbies are golf, movies, music and traveling. He has a son and a daughter and is now a happy grandfather of four children.
